Review: 2019 Lenovo Vs 2019 Macbook Pro

On 27 August a tweet went up of the president at work with a Lenovo laptop. PC users took to the comments to poke fun at their Macbook counterparts putting the Lenovo over Apple’s laptop. Afterall the President preferred it. While Macbooks have been dominating the laptop landscape, other computer manufacturers have been upping their game. Lenovo, HP and Dell are leading the charge in that department. Today, I want to put an end to the argument by comparing the 2019 Macbook Pro to 2019’s best Lenovo aka Lenovo IdeaPad S940. To make the decision, I am considering 5 parameters, Design, Battery Life, Performance, Display and Price.

The Macbook has been known for an impeccable design over the years. While this is one of it’s strongest suits, the 13-inch, 11.97 x 8.36 x 0.59 inches aluminium body of the Macbook pro is also it’s undoing. The design has been the same for years. It is chunky, the touchpad is impeccable and while the build is solid and durable, it offers nothing fresh in that department. The Lenovo S940, has an aluminium body but is 1 inch wider than the Mac. Offering more room for a screen and other internal components like the battery. It is also slimmer and at 1.2 Kg weighs less than the Mac giving the Lenovo a fresh and cleaner look from what we are used to.

What is a laptop without a fire display? In this area both machines come packing a punch, the 13-inch Macbook comes with a 2560 x 1600-pixel retina display which makes watching 4K videos a breeze. The Lenovo, however, packs a 3,840 x 2,160-pixel screen which towers over the Macbook pro giving a crystal clear image unlike any other.

If you use the Lenovo in Ultra HD mode, It would give you about 7 hours of battery life which isn’t bad. When in Full HD, the battery can last for up to 15 hours. Compare this to the Macbook pro, you can get about 10 hours of battery life.

In the department of performance, the Macbook Pro comes with a 1.4-GHz 8th-generation Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. For about 1,500,000 shillings more than the actual price, you can get an upgrade to a 2.4-GHz 8th-gen Core i5 CPU. The Lenovo S940 comes with an Intel Core i5-8265U or i7-8565U processor, 8GB or 16GB RAM, up to 1TB SSD together with an integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics card. More than ideal for simple computer tasks like wordprocessing and fast internet browsing.

When it comes to Price, the Lenovo starts at about 5,600,000 shillings. It could go up to about 7,400,000 shillings with internal upgrades of the hard drive, RAM and GPU. The MacBook price starts at about 4,800,000 shillings
